Stage and Costume Faux Pas

The cast were amazing and the orchestra was fantastic. Worthy to watch.... However, I think the customer designers needs more creativity.....Mama needs to be dressed- up just like a fashionable policewoman and not like someone who is going to work in a 9-5 job in Manhattan. The second act -if they crew wanted to remain its sexy naughtiness- they should at least don't have to wear the same black lingerie costume used on the first act , make either silver or gold....otherwise its boring. It could be improve by having more video and lights fixing and removal of the orchestra at front and center.

Chicago the Musical was just fair

Chicago the Musical at the Orpheum in Minneapolis was just fair. The dancing was excellent and the singing good. The staging was sub par, with the orchestra in view on the stage as the backdrop to every scene. Especially distracting was the costuming. Some actors were in expected 1920s styles, but other actors were dressed like 1990s grunge/punk, and still others had costumes that looked like they had been purchased this week at K-mart. Several ill fitting designs. Mary Sunshine was played as a trans character which was of no surprise, yet dialog added to make the audience think they should be shocked. This character fell flat. The use of ladders to add visual interest was also unimpressive. I would not recommend this production to anyone who loves theater like I do.

Just OK

I was really looking forward to seeing this on stage for my first time. The singing was fantastic! The choreography was good. Sometimes the shapes the dancers made together were awesome. My biggest complaint was that about half the numbers, the singer was so static/still. No movement. No choreography at all. "Mama" either stood still, or sat in a chair, for the WHOLE ENTIRE SONG. A couple numbers were mostly on a tall ladder, once again, still. Just not dynamic at all. My daughter said she almost fell asleep a few times! The big dance number at the end, with Velma and Roxy, was very underwhelming. It's a long number, so I didn't expect the whole thing to be big moves, but there wasn't one single move that was "wow". It was all very basic steps. A few musicals I come out of just feeling "wow, I'm so glad I saw that, it was worth it". This one, I didn't feel that way at all. I felt disappointed.
